My Story

Early Life and Education

Carlos A. Reck Burneo was born in Quito-Ecuador. He began his higher education at Universidad San Francisco de Quito, where he graduated top of his class with cum laude distinction in February 2003.

Medical Career

Pediatrics and Surgery Training

After earning his MD, Dr. Reck Burneo moved to the United States for his residency in Pediatrics at Long Island College Hospital/Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, completing it in July 2008 and receiving the Joseph R. Bongiorno Award for compassion, professionalism, and scholarship. He further specialized in Pediatric Surgery at Medizinische Universität Wien in Vienna, Austria, where he was board certified by the Austrian Medical Chamber in June 2015.

Professional Achievements

Dr. Reck Burneo held the position of Austrian board-certified attending pediatric surgeon at Medizinische Universität Wien from July 2017 to October 2021. There, he specialized in colorectal pelvic reconstruction, addressing a broad spectrum of pediatric surgical cases. He founded the Pediatric Colorectal Service, focusing on treating persistent cloaca, Hirschsprung disease, and related anomalies.

From October 2021 to October 2023, Dr. Reck Burneo served as the Director of Pediatric Surgery at Landesklinikum Mödling, Landesgesundheitsagentur Niederösterreich, in Mödling, Austria, where he initiated and established a Pediatric Colorectal Service.

As of February 2024, Dr. Reck Burneo has been an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Associate Division Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery at SUNY Downstate Department of Surgery.

Publications and Contributions

Dr. Reck Burneo co-authored the book "Pediatric Colorectal and Pelvic Surgery: Case Studies" and has been involved in numerous research projects, with publications in leading medical journals on topics such as pediatric colorectal surgery and congenital malformations. He is also a co-founder and chairman of "Helping Hands for Anorectal Malformations," a nonprofit organization.
